The New York Times pitch - Opinion Section

As a longtime fan of The New York Times, I’ve decided to create the series of editorial illustrations and pitch them for some freelance work.

-
ARTICLE 01: Yes, Run for Office – https://goo.gl/RS1Ti9
Concept: The competition for higher position in office is always fierce. In the picture, each window represents a different level of success. A confidence man is walking up toward a position that he deserves.

ARTICLE 02: America’s Real Digital Divide – https://goo.gl/b7x3h4
Concept: Image of a child watching TV alone signifies the lack of attention from parents to their children. The child is obsessed with what is shown on the TV. Nowadays, children are addicted to cartoons and other TV shows.

ARTICLE 03: Your Mother’s Maiden Name Is Not a Secret – http://goo.gl/5HBLZM
Concept: The image of the ‘note’ represents each individual’s sensitive and secure information is protected. The person has the power to share or keep the information to himself via “giving” and “receiving”.

ARTICLE 04: Running Dry in Cape Town – http://goo.gl/eA192c
Concept: The image of the entire Cape Town city is reflected in a small puddle. The puddle gets smaller and smaller as the water drains. The gradual disappearance of reflection of the city in a puddle is a metaphorical symbolism of the city’s current state.

ARTICLE 05: Eating Fast May Raise Obesity Risk – http://goo.gl/rakWqs
Concept: An obese person holding a watch is portrayed in the picture. The message is that fast food is not the only cause of obesity. The message of this picture is depended on personal interpretation.

The fonts and templates are just mock-ups and don’t represent anything related to brands or owner usage. I used Gotham and Begum for the typefaces because they are easy to read at small point sizes. I own these illustrations and they themselves are my own creations.
